Following the recent seismic activity in San Angelo, we have identified structural damage to a load-bearing wall in the main building at San Jacinto Elementary School, which may compromise the integrity of the structure. For the safety of our students and staff, we are closing the building until further notice. To keep the San Jacinto family together and due to limited available space, students and staff in grades K-5 will be temporarily relocated to Reagan Elementary School for the start of the 2024-2025 school year until repairs are completed. San Jacinto and Reagan ES will have a delayed start to the school year and classes will begin on Monday, August 19. Transportation will be provided for all students.
Students and staff in Tiny Texans, Early Childhood Special Education (ESCE), and pre-kindergarten are in safe buildings that are not connected to the main building and will remain at the San Jacinto campus.
“Some things are out of our control, such as earthquakes,” said Superintendent Dr. Christopher Moran. “In this case, it will affect our ability to open the year at San Jacinto Elementary School. However, San Jacinto is far more than bricks and mortar. It is the people and our students whom we love very much and we want to make sure they are safe and well cared for. I have the fullest confidence that Mrs. Beers and her staff will provide our students with everything they need to be successful to begin the year on another campus. Above all, students first!”
We are working closely with structural engineers and emergency services to assess and address the situation. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we are committed to keeping you informed about the situation at Reagan and San Jacinto Elementary School.
