San Angelo ISD Schools to be Closed for Next Two Days, February 17-18 Due to Weather

Due to historic hazardous weather conditions and power outages continuing to impact our community, San Angelo ISD campuses and offices will be CLOSED for the next two days, Wednesday, February 17, 2021 and Thursday, February 18, 2021, for the safety of our students and staff. At this time, half of our SAISD campuses are without power impacting our ability to heat our facilities and provide electricity necessary for the school day. As the continued rolling power outages and blackouts throughout the city also affect access to reliable internet for our families, there will be no expectation of online attendance for in-person students or Virtual Academy students.

SAISD has been in constant contact with the National Weather Service (NWS), TxDOT, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and other local agencies.

It is important to note that decisions made regarding school delays and/or closures are not based on temperature, but icy road conditions that make travel dangerous and other weather-related considerations affecting the school day like power outages.

We hope our students, families, staff and community are staying safe and warm in this historic weather and power outage crisis. San Angelo ISD appreciates the dedicated work of our SAISD Facilities and Maintenance team that is putting in extra hours late into the evening to protect our schools as well as first responders, linemen and other critical workers helping to keep our community safe.
